How to Make the Perfect Morning Jam Breakfast Sandwich
Step 1: Homemade Strawberry Jam

Step 2: Prepping Your Bread
I recommend using sourdough for this sandwich because it adds a lovely tang that pairs beautifully with the sweetness of the jam. Slice two pieces of sourdough and, to up the creaminess, spread a layer of cream cheese on both slices. This adds a rich and smooth texture that complements the other ingredients.
Tip: Toasting the sourdough on a skillet with a little butter or olive oil gives the bread a golden, crispy exterior, which creates the perfect contrast to the creamy fillings.

Step 3: Cooking the Eggs and Bacon
Step 4: Assemble the Sandwich

Tips & Tricks for the Best Morning Jam Breakfast Sandwich
-
Make the Jam in Advance: This is a perfect make-ahead component. Prepare the strawberry jam the night before and store it in the fridge. In the morning, it’ll be ready to go, and you’ll save time on busy mornings.
-
Customize Your Fillings: Don’t stop at bacon, egg, and cheese—add avocado for extra creaminess, or swap out cheddar for gouda or brie for a more decadent flavor profile.
-
Crisping the Bread: For added crunch, you can press the sandwich with a spatula while frying on the skillet, similar to a grilled cheese. This ensures everything is pressed together, and the outside gets that irresistible crispiness.

Morning Jam Breakfast Sandwich
Ingredients
- 4 slices bread, I used a Vermont Cheddar artisan loaf from a local bakery for extra cheddar love
- Cheddar cheese (I used sliced white cheddar and shredded yellow cheddar)
- 1/2-3/4 cup chopped cooked broccoli
- 2 tbsps unsalted butter, room temp
- 1 tbsp chopped chive
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- In a small bowl, mix the chives and a pinch of salt into the softened butter.
- On one slice of bread, layer white cheddar, broccoli, and shredded yellow cheddar, then top with the second slice of bread. Spread about 1/2 tablespoon of the chive butter on the outside of the sandwich.
- Preheat a griddle or skillet over medium heat. Place the sandwich, buttered side down, on the griddle. Use parchment paper and a steak weight (or a spatula) to press the sandwich down as it cooks. Cook for 2-3 minutes, until the bottom is golden brown.
- Carefully spread more chive butter on the top slice of bread before flipping the sandwich. Grill the other side for another 2-3 minutes, until crispy and golden. Once done, top with extra chives if desired. Let the sandwich cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!
